Mission/ Purpose Statement
The Marquette County Highway Department fulfills its responsibilities to maintain the safety and convenience of the county and state trunk highway systems, by performing both general and winter maintenance. General maintenance includes: patching, crack filling and seal coating of pavement, shoulder maintenance, asphalt overlays, vegetation control, bridge and culvert maintenance, litter and trash pickup, guard rail installation and repair, signing, pavement marking and traffic control. Winter maintenance includes: installation and removal of snow fence, application of sand and salt, plowing, shoveling snow.
The department currently maintains 238 centerline miles of county highways and 114 centerline miles of state highways. The department has 30 full-time employees. The Marquette County Highway Department has service agreements with Towns on a year by year basis for snowplowing, signage, brushing, mowing, etc. The department also provides estimates with towns for assorted jobs throughout the summer as warranted.
Marquette County Highway Department maintains four (4) storage and maintenance facilities at various locations; the main shop is in Montello with outlying shops in:
