Measles
Measles is a very contagious respiratory illness that spreads through the air on droplets, like coughing and sneezing.
Signs & Symptoms:
High fever | Cough | Runny nose | Red, watery eyes |
Red rash with raised bumps (Starting at the hairline and moving down the body)
One out of every four people who get measles in the United States will be hospitalized. One or two out of every 1,000 children in the United States who get measles will die from the disease, even with the best care.
Measles can cause serious health problems, such as:
Pneumonia, an infection of the lungs.
Brain damage caused by swelling.
Deafness.
Prevention: The MMR vaccine protects against Measles, Mumps, & Rubella
Children should receive their first dose of the vaccine between 12 and 15 months of age, and the second dose at 4-6 years of age.
